If your SEO Company tells you that it guarantees a number one spot on Google (or any other search engine) then be very worried. NOBODY can guarantee a number one spot on Google (or any other), unless they own it. Even Google cannot guarantee it as their algorithm changes roughly every 6 days.
If your SEO company does not know how to do website design or programming this could cause a problem as they may not understand the code that makes up your website enough to actually change it.
If your SEO company suggests to use link farms, RUN! Link farms are a way of getting a lot of links back to your site, but in truth they can cause problems with your SEO, rather than help it. It's much better to direct people to your site who want to be directed and there are much easier and more effective ways to do this than using link farms.
